Privacy policy

Version 2026-10-22.1. Draft for legal review: the parts marked like this are filled in before launch.

In short

  • Savant keeps what it needs to teach you: your account, your answers and your progress.
  • The camera and microphone tools work on your device. No picture, video or sound is uploaded or kept. Only results such as "shot made" are saved.
  • We never sell your data, never use it for advertising and show no ads.
  • Learners under their country's age of digital consent need a parent or guardian to agree. Until then their account is limited, and outside AI services stay off for them unless a parent chooses otherwise.
  • Parents can see, download and delete their child's data at any time on the parent page.

Who we are and how to reach us

Savant is a learning app run by operator's legal name and postal address. For anything about your data, or a child's data, write to privacy contact email. We answer within response time, for example 30 days.

What we collect

Your account
Your name, email and password (stored scrambled, never readable). A child account has a first name or nickname and a username instead of an email.
The age question
The month and year you were born and the country you live in. Everyone is asked once.
Your learning
Subjects and levels, the questions you were shown and your answers, scores, how long activities took, streaks and points, and what you type in lessons (answers, essays, comments about a level, the optional interests survey).
Camera and microphone results
Only outcomes, such as shots made and where from, notes played and whether they were right, stars on a song. See Camera and microphone.
For parents
Your email, a scrambled password, and the record of your consent (when, how, which notice, which choices).
Cookies and storage
One cookie that keeps you signed in. Your browser also remembers small preferences such as light or dark mode on your device. No advertising, analytics or tracking cookies, and no third-party scripts.

How we use it

To run Savant for you: find your level, choose and mark your lessons, show your progress, keep you signed in, and keep the service secure (for example, limiting repeated sign-in attempts). We do not sell personal data, use it for advertising, or build profiles for anyone else. We do not use children's data to train AI models.

Camera and microphone

Some basketball and piano activities can use the camera or microphone. They are switched on only when the learner starts one of those activities, and the browser or phone asks permission first. Everything the camera sees and the microphone hears is processed on the learner's device and then dropped. Savant never uploads, records or keeps pictures, video or sound from these activities, and never uses a face or voice to identify anyone. We keep only results, such as "shot made" or "notes played correctly", with the learner's progress, and whether the camera or microphone was used.

The basketball filming activity can record a short clip so you can watch yourself back. The clip stays in the browser on your device. If you choose "Keep the clip", it is saved to your device, not to Savant.

Every camera and microphone activity can also be done by tapping or with the on-screen keys, so saying no to the permission never blocks learning. A parent can turn these features off for their child on the parent page.

The Spanish section is different, and only for learners who are not on a child account: its speaking activities send your recording to our server and to an outside speech service to turn it into text, and a project file you choose to upload is stored on our server. For child accounts these are off.

Outside AI services

Some features send what a learner writes or says, with the question it answers, to an outside AI company to answer or mark it: the question coach and "ask about this", chat help inside lessons, essay marking, checking a typed answer our own rules cannot settle, and the Spanish speaking and writing activities. Lessons can also be written for a learner from a short summary of their progress. These companies process it only to give Savant the answer, under their terms for business customers:

  • modelflare.dev (a reseller of AI models; it writes the shared placement quizzes, which carry no learner data)
  • OpenRouter
  • Anthropic
  • Google (Gemini, including its speech service)
  • Xiaomi (MiMo, including its speech service)
  • NVIDIA
  • LLM Gateway (llmgateway.io, a speech service: Spanish speaking practice and the tutor's voice and listening, adult accounts the operator has switched on only)

For a child account these stay off unless a parent turns on "outside AI" on the parent page and returns the signed form. Without that, the child's own words, recordings and name are not sent to any of these companies.

Other companies that help run Savant: hosting provider and region, email provider.

Children

Everyone who signs up answers the same question: month and year of birth, and country. Learners under their country's age of digital consent get a child account: 13 in the United States and the United Kingdom (also Denmark and Sweden), 14 in Spain and Italy, 15 in France, 16 in Germany and the Netherlands, and 16 in every other country until we have checked its rule.

Before a parent agrees

A child account collects only a first name or nickname, a username, a password and a parent's email, which we use only to ask the parent. The child can use the parts of Savant answered with taps, buttons and typing. The camera, the microphone and every outside AI feature are off. If no parent agrees within 14 days, the account, everything in it and the parent's email are deleted.

How a parent agrees

We email the parent a link to a notice that says what we collect and why, including how the camera and microphone work. The parent agrees on that page and makes a parent account; a day later we email again to confirm, with how to withdraw. This covers Savant's own use only. Sharing a child's words with an outside AI company, or using their data for AI training, are separate choices a parent can make later, each needing a signed form.

What parents can do

On the parent page, at any time: see a summary of what we keep and download all of it; turn the camera and microphone features off; turn the outside AI and AI training choices on or off; withdraw consent, which locks the account at once and stops all collection; and delete the account and its data, which happens at once. A parent can also write to us at the contact above.

We do not ask a child for more information than an activity needs, and we do not show children ads.

How long we keep it

An account you delete from your profileDeleted at once from the live data, with everything tied to it. No copy of your email is kept.

Camera and microphonePictures, video and sound are never kept. Results are kept with the learning data.
The record that a parent agreed or withdrewDates, method, notice version and a scrambled form of the parent's email, no child data: period, for example 3 years, as proof.

Your rights

You can download your data and delete your account yourself from your profile, and correct your details by writing to us. Where the law gives you more rights (for example under the GDPR or California law: to object, to restrict, to move your data, or to complain to a regulator), write to us and we will help. A parent has every one of these rights for their child.

How we keep it safe

  • Passwords and consent links are stored only in scrambled (hashed) form.
  • The sign-in cookie cannot be read by page scripts and is sent only over secure connections in production.
  • Pages may run only Savant's own scripts and may send data only to Savant itself; camera and microphone pages only to Savant's own interface. Requests from other websites are refused.
  • Repeated sign-in and sign-up attempts are slowed down.
  • Only the people who run Savant can see learners' data, and only to run and fix the service.
  • We keep a written information security programme and review it how often.

Changes to this policy

Each version has a number, at the top. If a change affects what we collect from children or how we use it, we ask parents to agree again before it applies to their child.
